Annual Fall Get-Together with Lower Columbia Preservation Society -- A Great Success!
October 3, 2011 by Sydney Stevens
"Back to School" was the theme of this year's annual Fall Get-Together with the Lower Columbia Preservation Society (LCPS).
The event was held in the historic Oysterville Schoolhouse on Saturday September 24, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. "Attendance" and "Sharing" gave an opportunity for the nineteen LCPS members to tell about their own involvement with preservation efforts in Astoria. A "History Lesson" then followed with ORF members reviewing the history of the various schools in Oysterville (there have been four!) and about some of their own experiences in the days when the present schoolhouse was still being used. "Lunch" included steamer clams, barbecued chicken and hot-off-the-grill oysters -- all prepared by ORF members -- perfectly complemented by salads and desserts from the LCPS. Although whiffle golf equipment was available for "Recess" games, everyone preferred to visit and further cement our burgeoning friendships. The day was deemed a great success by everyone in attendance!
